FIRST INTERVENTION MANUAL - CAUSES AND REMEDIES
A quick guide to the most common citrus problems and ways to solve them simply and effectively.
LEAF PROBLEMS
! Cause:
• Excessive or too little watering;
• Iron deficiency (iron chlorosis).
! Remedies:
• Balance irrigation, avoiding excesses or shortages of water;
• Add iron chelates or a specific citrus-based fertilizer
trace elements.
! Possible causes:
• Temperature changes between day and night;
• Irregular irrigation;
• Soil constantly too moist.
! Remedies:
• Place the plant in a place with a stable temperature;
• Water regularly, avoiding stagnation;
• Let the top few inches of soil dry before watering.
! Possible causes:
• Aphids or scale insects;
• Water shortage on the hottest days.
! Remedies:
• If you see insects in the shoots, treat with soft potassium soap or specific natural products;
• In estate, slightly increase the frequency of irrigation.
! Possible causes:
• Red spider mite or other phytophagous insects.
! Remedies:
• During cool hours, Spray water on the leaves to increase humidity;
• Use natural acaricides or specific products if the infestation is advanced.
! Cause:
• Ferric chlorosis (iron deficiency).
! Remedies:
• Administer iron chelates dissolved in water;
• Improves drainage, repotting the plant, if the land remains
constantly humid.
FRUIT PROBLEMS
! Cause:
• Natural phenomenon (pre-fruit setting);
• Water or nutritional stress.
! Remedies:
• Maintain constant soil moisture;
• Use citrus fertilizer rich in potassium.
! Cause:
• Potassium deficiency;
• Vase too small;
• Insufficient sun exposure.
! Remedies:
Feed the plant with specific citrus fertilizer (high K content);
• Repot the plant every 2 years;
• Place it in full sun for at least 6–8 hours a day.
! Cause:
• Lack of pollination (especially indoors);
• Bad sun exposure.
! Remedies:
• Move the plant outside during the flowering period.
! Cause:
• Excess nitrogen.
! Remedies:
• Balance fertilization using specific products for citrus fruits.
! Cause:
• Ferric chlorosis (iron deficiency).
! Remedies:
• Administer iron chelates dissolved in water;
• Improves drainage, repotting the plant, if the land remains
constantly humid.
BRANCH PROBLEMS
! Cause:
• Seasonal stress;
• Vegetative rest;
• Reaction to repotting or temperature changes.
! Remedies:
• Do not cut branches immediately: wait for the spring recovery;
• Maintain consistency in watering and exposure.
SOIL PROBLEMS
! Cause:
• Soil that drains too much;
• Vase too small.
! Remedies:
• Repot in a larger container with soil richer in organic matter;
• Add a portion of compost or humus.
GROWTH PROBLEMS
! Cause:
• Excess nitrogen;
• Poor sun exposure.
! Remedies:
• Use specific fertilizer for citrus fruits, rich in potassium and microelements;
• Expose the plant to full sun.
! Cause:
• Root blocking (roots too tight);
• Exhausted soil;
• Lack of nutrients.
! Remedies:
• Repot into a larger pot;
• Fertilize regularly throughout the year.
